Healthline have partnered with GE to launch 3D Body Maps which is a web based human body visualization tool enabling a deeper understanding of human anatomy.
Healthline was founded in 1999 by Dr. James Norman as YourDoctor.com. The website was originally envisioned as an advertising supported medical website for consumers and later the business model changed to a focus on the healthcare enterprise market. Healthline has transitioned into a health focused search engine available to consumers and has recently introduced a 3D body maps visual search engine that is available on their website. The Healthline search engine returns high quality, relevant results that draw on the knowledge of over 1100 physicians, specialists and medical editors. Healthline results are also taken from a continually updated and refined list of over 60,000 authoritative websites.
Healthline Body Maps is built on the Adobe Flash platform and is accessible to most web users unlike the Google Body Browser which requires the user to download a set of open GL plug-ins and have an HTML5 capable browser or the Chrome browser. The next stage of Healthline's new 3-D tool is mobile interoperability. Healthline 3-D Body Maps is aligned to complement the personal and portable electronic record. Although a recent article in Search Engine Watch states "Google Body is more of technology feat and an experiment in interfaces rather than a learning tool" it should be interesting to compare the two systems upon Healthline 3-D Body Maps completing it's next stage of development and when the Google Body Browser is out of beta and ready for prime time.
On April 6th 2011 Healthline Networks announced the launch of the first mobile optimized health information website m.healthline.com. The mobile version of Healthline.com offers consumers the same authoritative health reference content as healthline.com. It was interesting to read in the official press release that the mobile website "provides advertisers with a robust marketing vehicle to reach the growing number of consumers seeking health information while away from their PC". The Healthline offering is an interesting resource that combines health information as well as that targets people looking for information, consumers as well as advertisers.
