Oral Health Policy and a Healthy Future
Dental problems are a serious issue, limited dental coverage and high out-of-pocket costs reduce consumers' use of dental services. Consequences due to untreated dental problems include pain, tooth loss, gum disease and a host of other related complications. When children experience dental problems they find it difficult to eat, play and learn while adults with the same experience find it difficult to work.

The CDA Awards and a New ODA President
You may be aware that April was National Oral Health Month. The Canadian Dental Association presented some of its 2010 awards during ceremonies held in Ottawa in April, The Medal of Honour, Distinguished Service Award, Special Friend of Canadian Dentistry Award and the Honorary Membership Award. The Canadian Dental Association is the national voice for dentistry, dedicated to the advancement and leadership of a unified profession and to the promotion of optimal dental health, an essential component of general health.

Health Canada Approves The Canary System Technology for Sale in Canada
Glen Murray, Ontario's Minister of Research and Innovation, recently announced $2.25 million in funding over three years to establish a network of regional innovation centres referred to as the Ontario Network of Excellence (ONE). One is made up of 14 centres where entrepreneurs can find support, technical expertise, research resources and business advice to help turn innovations into businesses.

Party For A Cause, Sharing Smiles Day 2011
On Friday, January 7th, 2011 a fundraiser "Party For A Cause" organized by Oral Health, Total Health-London raised funds to support Sharing Smiles Day. The fundraiser included a night of food, live music, dancing, raffle prizes and a silent auction. Oral Health, Total Health is a non-for profit group dedicated to addressing the lack of access to oral health care issues facing persons with special needs. OHTH has a mission to advocate, educate and improve the oral health care for the special needs community.

The Relationship Between Periodontal Disease and Diabetes
Dental decay and periodontal disease is the most common disease in human kind, prevalence of periodontal disease in 35 year olds and older occurs at a rate of 30 to 50%. Periodontal disease is an infectious inflammatory disease that infects the bone, ligament and gum tissue that supports the tooth. Women are more susceptible to premature and low birth weight births when they have active periodontal diseases in their mouth. Connection have been made between dental infections or conditions and cardiovascular disease and heart attacks.
