Mining for Small Business Leads
As businesses of all sizes continue to explore how social media sites can be used for marketing purposes, a Toronto start-up recently launched a solution that helps small businesses generate leads via Facebook and Twitter. While LinkedIn has already incorporated lead generation on its platform, Facebook and Twitter have largely been previously untapped.

The startup, called “Needls,” has designed software that can be implemented as a service lead generation tool. Its primary purpose is to help small businesses, independent professionals, and entrepreneurs leverage Facebook and Twitter to generate quality leads.

The company was founded in 2013 by a collective of entrepreneurs that were brainstorming alternative means for digging up new sales leads. The principals of All You Can Eat Internet and WesellYourSite.com came together to explore creative options outside the traditional realm of trade shows, cost per click advertising, and expensive, non-exclusive lists.

According to data collected by Hubspot, social media leads generate an astounding 71 percent more sales than traditional lead sources. Many larger companies have already found social media sites invaluable when it comes to connecting with existing and potential customers, but small businesses should be equally invested in exploring leads via social media.

Recognizing the Importance of Small Businesses

The team behind Needls believes small and medium-sized businesses are a vital part of a region’s economy. According to CEO and co-founder Justin Hartzman, “Small business owners – realtors, plumbers, event planners, and so on – are the backbone of the North American economy.”

“Needls is the only social media lead generation tool designed with the small business owner in mind. The platform delivers highly qualified leads to business owners across almost every industry sector with a touch of a button,” Hartzman says.

The Needls tool works by filtering a list of industry-specific keywords provided by the client through Twitter and Facebook in order to generate both relationship-based and local sales leads. The client is then able to view these leads in real-time via email. According to Needls, the platform is capable of generating anywhere from one to five strong leads every month.

The Cost of Tapping Social Media for Leads

Of course, any tool that provides such benefits to your business must come at a price. Fortunately, Needls gives clients a few different options. Businesses operating in a single location can open a ‘Harvester’ account for just $39.95 a month. Others serving multiple locations have the option of opening a ‘Cultivar’ account for $69.95 per month.

While these are just introductory prices, the company firmly believes that most owners that open an account will successfully recoup their monthly investment with just a single closed lead. While most small businesses struggle to find quality leads in the first place, the Needls platforms effectively reduces the time small business owners must spend searching for new leads, which ultimately gives them more time to follow-through and successfully close the leads they’re provided.

Increased accessibility to clients is revolutionizing the way small businesses get their name out there, and a comprehensive lead generation platform, such as the one offered by Needls, will ultimately allow small and medium-sized businesses make the most of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
