Dominating The Social Media Sphere
This month I was lucky enough to meet with Tim Doyle, avid foursquare user and Vice President, Editor in Chief, New Media of Postmedia Network Inc. Postmedia Network Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Postmedia Network Canada Corp. If you are unfamiliar with Postmedia you are likely familiar with a number of web properties within their network, which includes the National Post, Canada.com and Dose.ca to name just a few. Sprouter Inc. is a company that focuses on tech, digital media, entrepreneurship and startups. Sprouter will operate under the same name and branding and is now a division of Postmedia Network Inc. Sprouter produces a weekly entrepreneurial publication and hosts global Sprout Up events that bring together entrepreneurs in local communities. FPinfomart is a division of Postmedia Network Inc., a resource for media monitoring, financial and corporate data and offer online media monitoring products covering print, newswires, blogs, and broadcast in a single integrated platform.

With an influx of organizations that started to test the water with search engine optimization and marketing in 2006 to 2008, today there are a number of businesses that dominate the search engine results pages. While a number of businesses have been testing SEO, SEM, SMO and mobile and building teams around internet marketing others have been apprehensive in their approach to search and some have been left behind. Since 2009 social networking has been the catch phrase of savvy marketers that have their finger on the pulse of innovation and the future of online, while mobile is usually also in focus.

For a number of organizations 2012 may be the year where testing, initiatives and search integration may further increase market dominance. Postmedia has put itself in a position to capture market dominance in social media monitoring and reputation management, competing with the likes of Radian6, where price points range between 600 and 4000 monthly for measurement and search analysis.
