IBM plans to host more than 17 SmartCamp events worldwide this year, one and two day events that will bring together entrepreneurs, mentors and investors in specific industries. Focusing on healthcare the first KickStart event of the year will take place in Miami on May 15th with a follow up in New York on May 24th focusing on Smart Cities. The May 15th KickStart event, sponsored by Florida International University, CareCloud, and the University of Miami, will focus on healthcare business ventures that align with the IBM Smarter Healthcare vision.

Over the past few years we have seen an increasing relationship between IBM, Healthcare and Analytics. This past month on the 10th of April the Governments of Canada and Ontario, IBM and a consortium of seven universities led by the University of Toronto and Western announced a collaboration to establish the IBM Canada Research and Development Centre, a $210 million dollar research and development initiative in Ontario creating a new economic cornerstone for the country. The Centre is IBM's first formal research and development lab in Canada.

| One Hundred Years Of Dental Educators Honoured |
|
The Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie University recently became the first Canadian University to be awarded the William J. Gies Award for Achievement by the ADEAGies Foundation. The William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation and Achievement recognize exceptional contributions to and support of oral health and dental education. The awards were presented in conjunction with the 2012 American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Annual Session and Exhibition March 17 to 21 at the Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Florida. The William J. Gies Award for Achievement, named after Dr. William John Gies, was presented to honour 100 years of dental educators at Dalhousie who exemplify dedication to the highest standards of achievement in dental education, research and service.
